What is LATISSE (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.05%?

LATISSE solution is a prescribed treatment for hypotrichosis (inadequate or not enough eyelashes) used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. LATISSE solution is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for inadequate or insufficient eyelashes, growing them longer, fuller and darker.

How do I apply LATISSE?

LATISSE is a once-a-day treatment you apply each evening to the base of the upper eyelashes. LATISSE solution is only intended for use on the skin of the upper eyelid margins at the base of the eyelashes. DO NOT APPLY TO THE LOWER EYELID. LATISSE users may see results starting at 4 weeks with full results after 16 weeks. The growth is gradual overnight, over time.

What are the possible side effects of LATISSE?

The most common side effects after using LATISSE solution are an itching sensation in the eyes and/ or eye redness. This was reported approximately 4% of patients. LATISSE solution may cause other less common side effects which typically occur on the skin close to where LATISSE is applied, or in the eyes. These include skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness or the eyes, and redness of the eyelids. LATISSE use may cause darkening of the eyelid skin which may be reversible. Although not reported in clinical studies, LATISSE use may also cause increased brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely to be permanent.

What is skin hyperpigmentation?

This is a common, usually harmless condition in which patches of skin become abnormally darker than the surrounding skin color. This occurs when the excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin. Hyperpigmentation is a possible side effect of LATISSE, but may be reversible after you discontinue use.

Who should NOT use LATISSE? What if I wear contacts?
Do not use LATISSE solution if you are allergic to one of its ingredients. If you have history if abnormal IOP, you should only use LATISSE under the close supervision of your physician. You should tell your physician you are using LATISISE especially if you have a history of eye pressure problems. You should also tell anyone conducting an eye pressure screening that you are using LATISSE.
LATSISSE is fine for contact lens users to use. LATISSE solution is an ophthalmic drug product, it’s not expected to cause harm to the eye; however we do recommend you remove your contact lenses prior to application. Contacts can be reapplied 15 minutes after applying LATISSE. Latisse is a prescription filled product, and may be filled by approved vending physicians only.
