A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing technique in which a chemical solution is applied to the face to remove the outer surface layers of skin. Chemical peels come in a range of strengths from superficial peels such as a Glycolic Acid peel to Retinol Based peels. Chemical peels allow new, healthier skin to emerge.  Several light to medium-depth peels can often achieve similar results to one deeper peel treatment, with less risk and shorter recovery time.

Any of the following conditions may indicate that you might be a good candidate for a Chemical Peel. Chemical peel for even skin tone:

  • Wrinkled or sun-damaged facial skinvertical wrinkles around your mouth, such as those that cause lipstick “bleed”
  • “Crow’s feet” lines around your eyes and perhaps some skin laxity in your lower eyelid area
  • Fine wrinkling of your upper eyelids
  • Brown spots or blotchy skin coloring
  • Certain precancerous skin growths
  • Acne or chicken pox scars
  • Superficial facial scars from a past injury

Like the other resurfacing methods, the chemical peel is effective in treating wrinkles, blotchiness or age spots, and scars from acne or other causes. It can be used on the entire face or specific areas. Certain other characteristics of your skin, such as its thickness and texture, may influence whether you are a good candidate for chemical peel.

It may take some time before you can fully appreciate your new look. Most patients feel that the results are definitely worth waiting for and, in the case of deeper treatments, the benefits are relatively long-lasting. More superficial resurfacing treatments may need to be repeated periodically in order to maintain their benefits.

Your skin will, of course, continue to age. Also the type of wrinkles caused by movement of your facial muscles will eventually reappear. Some wrinkles may recur sooner than others, depending on their location as well as the type and extent of your resurfacing treatment. Despite this, you can expect that improvements in skin quality and texture achieved by resurfacing will make your complexion appear younger and fresher for many years to come.

Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). It is quick with no adverse effects, and is often combined in a medical facial, chemical peel or laser procedure. This is a great treatment to offer for a deeper exfoliation, as well as pregnant and nursing women.

Because dermaplaning is a quick procedure with few to no adverse effects, it has quickly gained popularity among cosmetic medical providers across the country. Using a scalpel and a delicate touch, the provider simply abrades the surface of the skin using light feathering strokes. This is a great treatment to offer to patients who are pregnant or nursing who want a deep exfoliation, but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk that the chemicals will be absorbed into the bloodstream, and may be transferred to the fetus. It is also a first choice for patients who have excess vellus hair on the skin.

Although merely an old wives’ tale, many patients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after dermaplaning. This is not the case. As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment.

Removing epidermal skin also allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. Physicians may recommend this treatment to prepare the skin for medical procedures such as laser treatments or deep chemical peels. It may also be used by estheticians to prepare the skin for superficial chemical peels or before a cleansing facial.

Dermaplaning is most often used on patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment results in a more refined, smooth, “glowing” appearance.

What the patient can expect?

There is no downtime associated with this procedure. The patient should be educated about the importance of using sunscreen to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation. Dermaplaning can be done as often as every two weeks, although it is usually done when vellus hair starts to grow back, which is generally in one month’s time.

The only contraindications to dermaplaning include an allergy to nickel, numerous raised lesions on the skin and inflamed acne.

MicroLaserPeel Skin Resurfacing

MicroLaserPeel is an intraepidermal laser peel that precisely ablates the outermost layers of the skin. This procedure is individually tailored to the nature of the skin condition to be corrected. Micro Laser Peel can successfully treat skin conditions such as: wrinkles, scars, acne scars, keratosis, or pigmentary problems. Because this procedure ablates deeper into the epidermis, Micro Laser Peel is the perfect step in between micropeel and full skin resurfacing. Your provider will discuss with you detailed pre and post treatment information.

What is MicroLaserPeel?

A MicroLaserPeel uses a laser to remove a thin layer of damaged skin to improve texture and provide a more youthful appearance. It provides superior results because it can be administered with great precision of depth. The procedure is performed in your physician’s office and can be custom tailored to your specific skin conditions and desired outcome.

How does MicroLaserPeel work?

A laser beam is scanned over a treatment area to remove a very thin layer of the skin. Removing the top layer eliminates some of the damaged cells that can give skin a tired, aged look. As the skin heals, fresh cells grow and resurface the treated area. The result is healthier looking skin, often with reduced wrinkles and improved color evenness. Patients often say that it looks like their skin went from looking tired to vibrant.
