Dermaplaning, the newest TikTok Trend

For the past year, some of the most popular selfcare videos on TikTok are pimple popping videos.  There is even an app game.   However, it looks like Dermaplaning is taking over that trend.  With a total of over a billion views online, people are taking to TikTok daily to learn more about dermaplaning.

Dermaplaning or sometimes referred to Dermablading, is a facial treatment whereby a professional aesthetician uses a blade to remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz to provide  smoother, clearer skin.  It can also minimize the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Dermaplaning is also a common procedure patients will receive after facial treatments like LaseMD or Micro-needling.

While many TikTok videos  show people performing dermaplaning on themselves, it isn’t the same as having the treatment done in an office by a licensed professional.  Often times the blades that people use on themselves are not of an ideal sharpness and although it can remove a layer of peach fuzz, it typically doesn’t go deep enough to safely remove a layer of dead skin.  Be advised that performing a procedure at home with a blade can have adverse side affects like skin irritation, ingrown hairs, and cuts.  In addition, if the blade is not sterilized each time, infection can occur.

The highly trained professionals at Hall and Wrye use a sterile surgical blade to safely remove all peach fuzz and a fine layer of dead skin cells.  After the procedure, we apply medical grade facial serum that absorbs into the face providing that healthy, youthful look that so many people have come to see and appreciate!

Dermaplaning is most often performed every 4-6 weeks (depending on skin type) for optimal effects.
