LIPOSUCTION VS. TUMMY TUCK

How do you determine if you are a good candidate for Liposuction or Tummy Tuck?  To start, you need to understand the difference between the two.  Tummy Tucks are more intensive procedures than Liposuction. While Liposuction removes excess fat, a Tummy Tuck reconstructs the muscles of the abdomen and removes excess skin.

Liposuction is a procedure to remove stubborn fat that you can’t get rid of through diet and exercise.  Liposuction is most commonly performed on hips, belly, thighs, buttocks, back and arms.  This minimally invasive procedure includes injecting the fat with a saline solution and sucking out the fat cells.  You will most likely be home the same day as the procedure and back to work in about a week.

You May Be A Good Candidate For Liposuction If…

you are at a stable, healthy weight and want to get rid of small fat pockets. Despite popular perception, Liposuction is not a method for weight loss.  Liposuction is designed to contour your body by eliminating isolated pockets of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise, not to remove a large volume of fat for weight loss purposes.

Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure to remove excess skin from your body.  This often happens to due rapid weight loss, pregnancy, age, or past surgeries.  You should be at your healthy weight and need to remove the excess skin and fat deposits that remain.  The Tummy Tuck procedure includes the removing of excess skin and repairing weakened abdominal muscles.  The end result is a firmer abdominal contour proportionate with the rest of your body.  Recovery time for a Tummy Tuck is a bit longer.  You can expect to be home for roughly 14 days post-surgery.

You May Be A Good Candidate For Tummy Tuck If…

You are physically healthy and at your ideal weight.  You are bothered by the appearance of your abdomen and have loose or excess skin.  Tummy Tucks should be performed after you have lost your goal weight and are looking to tighten and contour your midsection.  Tummy Tucks are not for weight loss purposes.

You May Be A Good Candidate For Tummy Tuck and Liposuction If…

You are in need of both loose skin removal and continue to have stubborn fatty pockets that won’t go away, even with diet.  People see even better results when you combine both a Tummy Tuck and Liposuction.

You Need Realistic Expectations & Goals.   Although Liposuction and Tummy Tucks can provide substantial improvements, neither are a weight loss tool.  To have the best success for either procedure, it is recommended that you are at your goal weight and are looking to improve the contour of your body.  Maintaining your healthy weight will also improve long term success of both procedures.
