CORRECTION OF BREAST ASYMMETRY
Very few women have perfectly symmetrical breasts. It is quite normal to notice some slight differences in the size and shape of your breasts; however, on some occasions, this asymmetry can be more severe. If your breast asymmetry has become a source of embarrassment or made you self-conscious, Hall and Wrye Plastic Surgeons can help. Breast augmentation can effectively correct your breast asymmetry so that you can feel more comfortable in and out of clothing.
CAUSES OF BREAST ASYMMETRY
Breast asymmetry can be caused by a variety of factors, including:
- Uneven development during adolescence
- Virginal hypertrophy – sudden extreme growth of one breast in a teenager or young adult
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Uneven shrinkage during the aging process
- Shrinkage of one breast due to a medical condition
- Mastitis – breast infection, generally caused by breastfeeding
- Weight gain or loss
- Mastectomy to treat breast cancer
- Poor results from a prior breast augmentation procedure
CORRECTING YOUR BREAST ASYMMETRY
Breast asymmetry can easily be corrected through breast augmentation. Depending on the severity of your asymmetry and your desired results, Drs. Hall and Wrye may recommend placing breast implants in one or both of your breasts.
Our doctors customize every procedure to meet the unique needs of each patient. If your asymmetry is very severe, the doctors may recommend breast augmentation in the smaller breast and breast reduction the larger one. If your asymmetry is due to shrinkage, a breast lift may be performed in conjunction with your breast augmentation procedure to achieve optimal results. In some cases, different sized implants may be the most effective way to correct your breast asymmetry.
At your initial consultation, Drs. Hall and Wrye will discuss all of these possibilities with you in great detail and work with you to arrive at the ideal method to achieve your unique goals. They will also review the different breast implant options available to you, as both saline and silicone implants can achieve exceptional results when correcting breast asymmetry.
